Interview: America on Film

Harry Benshoff and Sean Griffin are the authors of America on Film: Representing Race, Class, Gender, and Sexuality at the Movies. Harry Benshoff is a professor in the Department of Media Arts at the University of North Texas. Sean Griffin is a professor in the Division of Film and Media Arts at Southern Methodist University. In this interview, timed to coincide with the United States’ semiquincentennial, Benshoff and Griffin discuss their book, the way cinema has represented this country and various groups of people, and they name some films that capture American culture.
